Cloud translation

How to Use OpenRouter in Thaluna

OpenRouter lets Thaluna use cloud translation models when you want higher quality than local models alone. This guide covers setup and the most common failure points.

Where OpenRouter Is Configured

Thaluna OpenRouter and Ollama settings
Add your API key, pick a model, and configure cloud translation in the Ollama / Cloud settings section.
Thaluna translation model selection
Select the translation source and target language in the language/model selector.

Step 1: Create account and balance

Go to OpenRouter, create an account, and add a small balance. For testing, even a small amount is enough.

Step 2: Generate API key

Create a new API key in your OpenRouter dashboard and keep it private.

Step 3: Add key in Thaluna

Open Settings → Ollama/Cloud, paste the key, choose a model, and save.

Step 4: Enable OpenRouter in Languages

Open the translation model selector, switch to OpenRouter, choose the target language, and confirm with OK.

If cloud mode is not working

  • Regenerate the API key and paste it again carefully
  • Make sure the key saved in %localappdata%\Thaluna\secrets\openrouter_api_key.json matches your current key
  • Check that your OpenRouter account has balance available
  • Try a different model
  • Temporarily test another network or phone hotspot if VPN, proxy, firewall, or antivirus web protection may be interfering
